I am old. That is the first thing to tell you. The thing you are least likely to believe. If you saw me you would probably think I was about forty, but you would be very wrong.
Tom Hazard has a dangerous secret.
He may look like an ordinary 41-year-old, but owing to a rare condition, he’s been alive for centuries. From Elizabethan England to Jazz Age Paris, from New York to the South Seas, Tom has seen a lot, and now craves an ordinary life. Always changing his identity to stay alive, Tom has the perfect cover - working as a history teacher at a London comprehensive. Here he can teach the kids about wars and witch hunts as if he’d never witnessed them first-hand. He can try and tame the past that is fast catching up with him.
The only thing Tom mustn’t do is fall in love.
My Review
I picked this book up in a charity shop after toying with the idea of reading it for a while as I had seen it in the shops but wasn’t sure. So I thought at 50p it doesn’t matter if I don’t like it. It was still in great condition, the spine wasn’t broken it was like it had just come off a shop shelf.
I did find the first 50 or so pages of this book hard to get into, I was struggling a bit with the time difference in the chapters and then the different locations. However one Sunday I had time just to sit and read and I got so in to it that I must have read all bar the last 70 pages that day. I got hooked I wanted to know what was happening and how it was going to happen.
I found myself being drawn into this world of Tom’s and I needed to know more and more and more. This is the first book I have read by Matt Haig and I am looking forward to reading more. It was surprising how much I enjoyed this book considering I struggled with the start.
Fantastic read, it would be great for those going on holiday who have the chance to sit by the pool or sea and just dive in to the story and find yourself getting lost.
