The Little Cottage On The Hill - Emma Davies

There’s blossom in the trees and daffodils as far as the eye can see. Maddie is looking forward to a fresh start in the countryside, but there’s just one little problem…

Following a scandal at her high-flying PR agency, twenty-six-year-old Maddie flees London to help promote what she thinks is going to be a luxurious holiday retreat in the countryside. Everything is riding on her making a success of this new job…

Yet when she arrives, Maddie is horrified to find a rundown old farm in a terrible state. The brooding and secretive owner, Seth, spent all his money on leasing the land when he fell in love with the beautiful, dishevelled farm cottages and the very romantic story behind them.

When Maddie discovers an old painting by the original owner’s wife, she unlocks the secret of the farm’s history and quickly realises she must start getting her hands dirty if this very special place is going to have any chance of survival. As she and Seth begin working together, the stunning view from the top of the hill is not the only thing that’s leaving her breathless…

After weeks of hard work the dream looks like it might become a reality, until a secret from Maddie’s past threatens to snatch it all away again. Can Maddie find a way to save the business and herself? Will she finally find a place to keep her heart within the crumbling walls of the little cottage on the hill?

My Review
I wasn’t sure what to expect when I started this book, I didn’t read the blurb and had never heard of the author. All new and boy it was a good book, I found myself reading one more chapter over and over again.
This book was easy reading, the characters were well created and made you feel like you were part of the group. They all have great differences and all unique, there are moments you can relate to and moments where you wish you were there to give them a hug or that supportive ear. Other times you just want to sit on the bench and watch the world go by.
I could imagine being in the cottage and seeing every aspect of what is going on, the visual descriptions were strong in this book. There are so many levels to this book that you think you have got it all and then something else crops up. It makes you think of things you should be doing in life and makes you think of all the things that people are doing out there to help others.
I would love to know what happens, hoping that there will be a Christmas follow up. I would love to know what they have done with the cottage.

The Slow Lane Walkers Club - Rosa Temple

Buy Here This is my first book by Rosa Temple and it won't be my last.  I was a bit unsure when I started it. However I loved it.  Its not often I finish a book and end up hugging it because I loved it so much.  The characters were great, Hazel is amazing. She reminds me of an old family friend who never gives up no matter what. Daniel is a kind lad who I think is slightly misunderstood when he arrives back in Cornwall.  Their relationship is fantastic, one you can only dream about having with your grandmas friend.  This book is one big giant hug and it's exactly what I needed at the time of reading. Once you start you dont want to stop.  Best book of the year so far!

Mimic - Daniel Cole

Buy Here Having previously read Daniel coles books I was looking forward to this stand alone novel. It packs a punch right from the word go and it doesn't let up throughout the book. So many murders and so many what ifs.... And what an earths?!  I liked Chambers and Winter as detectives and their relationship that they had. They never lost charm even if there was a 7 year break in the book for them. They picked up exactly where they left off.  The book was very clever in the way that the murders took part. It was all a work if art. And don't worry if you are like me and aren't sure what they are there are paintings in the book to help you incase you cannot visual it. Great read.

Rock Paper Scissors - Alice Feeney

Buy Here This has to be one of the best books that I have read in a while. It really does have that, just one more chapter feel to it. I don't want to say too much as it will spoilt it and the blurb speaks for itself.  I liked the characters in this book and it really does get you thinking. I actually had an 'omg what?!' moment with this book.. I had to go back an rethink everything I had read up until that point.  If i had start this during the day I'm sure I would have finished it in one too. Really great read and cannot wait to read morw by this author.
